Blaire's 5 Best - Lake Como
I've always dreamed of going to Lake Como, and I couldn't stop pinching myself the entire time I was there! Lake Como is truly a special place. Did you know it's the deepest lake in Europe!? Measuring approximately 400 meters deep, this lake is COLD! But the dark blue water paired with the quaint towns on the sides of mountains make for one of the most picturesque places in the entire world. I got the honor of discovering this part of the world both through the amazing resorts and by boat (a MUST!) I toured three properties while I was there - all of which are partner hotels of mine and ones where I can offer exclusive, VIP amenities! - and will tell you the 5 things I liked best about each one!
Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni
Nestled in the town of Bellagio, Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is an extremely historic property that's been around since the 1800s. Here were the 5 things I liked best about Villa Serbelloni:
- Its Location. Bellagio is the cutest town, in my opinion, on Lake Como. Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is next to this bustling town but still tucked away as its own little oasis. It's about a 5 minute walk (MAX!) to the city center, so it's the perfect place if you wish to explore!
- Its Beach. Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni has an awesome beach that is right off the lake. This is the perfect place to sunbathe!
- Its Main Lobby. Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni has a grand common area with amazing details on the ceiling. I could sit on the couches and look up at this intricate design for hours!
- Its Bathrooms. The bathrooms at Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni have all recently been renovated and are beautiful with marble and updated fixtures!
- Its Michelin Star Restaurant. Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is home to a Michelin star restaurant with an incredible view of Lake Como. Not only can you indulge in some amazing cuisine, you can catch the views of the sunset!
*Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni is super classic-Italian, and its décor may not be for everyone.
Villa D'Este
Located 15 minutes walking from the town of Como, Villa D'Este is a lush, luxurious, lake side resort fit for a traveler wanting a vacation suitable for royalty! This place was truly special!! Here are my 5 favorite things about Villa D'Este:
- Its Grounds. Villa D'Este is surrounded by perfectly manicured grounds. And it's not like Villa D'Este has some flower beds here and some trees there... they have an entire botanic gardens behind its property for you to explore! Beyond perfect.
- Its Exclusivity. Villa D'Este wants to ensure its resort caters to its guests, so no one can come from outside the property and dine at their restaurants. They do have a sports club for members, but that's the only exception to the rule. This guarantees the resort will never become overcrowded!
- Its Pool. Villa D'Este's pool floats in the lake, so it feels like you're on a boat while you're lounging poolside. I mean... is there any better way to doze off while laying out than by rocking back and forth in sync with the water?!
- Its Kids Club. Villa D'Este caters to children! It has an amazing kids club where your child could be preoccupied with fun all day long. This makes it a great destination for an upscale family vacation.
- Its Restaurants. Villa D'Este has lots of restaurant options to chose from! I personally dined at the Grill after having a drink at the Terrace bar, and it was perfect. The service, the drinks, the food, the VIEWS! Everything was beyond all expectations!
*Villa D'Este is absolutely perfect for any traveler wishing to experience Italian luxury at its finest. This sophisticated resort is drop dead gorgeous and gives you such a regal feeling. There really wasn't much I disliked!!
Grand Hotel Tremezzo
And yet again, ANOTHER amazing property on Lake Como. The Grand Hotel Tremezzo, in my opinion, has such a fun feeling from its décor, its staff and its color scheme. I loved it! Here are the 5 things I liked best about GHT:
- Its Pools. Many people know Grand Hotel Tremezzo from the iconic picture of its pool in the middle of Lake Como, but what many people don't know is that GHT has two other pools! One is a beautiful, indoor, infinity pool connected to its spa and the other is a pool surrounded by lush gardens. This gives a traveler tons of opportunities to switch up his or her daily routine!
- Its Room Décor. Out of all the properties on Lake Como, I feel that Grand Hotel Tremezzo is the most "fresh" and updated. The room design is extremely sophisticated. It's still very Italian but has a modern flair!
- Its Spa. Grand Hotel Tremezzo was extremelllyyy generous and offered a massage treatment during my tour - it was amazing. But my awe didn't stop at the service... the entire spa is drop dead gorgeous. The relaxation rooms are unique and beautiful from one being light and airy to the other being darker with lit up marble designs. No wonder it was named one of the best spas in the world!
- Its Location. Located directly next to Villa Carlotta, one of the most iconic villas on Lake Como, Grand Hotel Tremezzo is extremely accessible to lots of things to do around the lake. GHT is also a 10-15 ferry ride away from Bellagio, my favorite town on Lake Como. This makes for an easy day trip to explore and grab a meal on the other side of the lake.
- Its Food. Grand Hotel Tremezzo had one of my favorite breakfast buffets of the entire time I was in Europe. Plus, the tables you dine at have an amazing view of the lake. Next door, I had the opportunity to have lunch at another one of their restaurants. Again, that food did not disappoint! And GHT has other dining options at the garden pool and nearby the lake pool.
*I personally absolutely loved Grand Hotel Tremezzo. One thing to note is that there is the main road between the resort and the lake pool. In my opinion, it's not that big of a deal, but it's something my clients need to know before booking.
I'm obsessed with Lake Como and can't wait to go back! It's the perfect place for a honeymoon, family vacation or a relaxing stop on your Europe trip. Let's get in touch about planning your next vacay here!
