BPK's Guide to a Girls Weekend in the Mountains

It's very rare to be BFFs with your high school friends 10 years post-grad. Luckily, I'm the exception to the rule. My high school besties are scattered all over the country, but we always make it a point to see each other at weddings, around holiday season and now during our newly formed annual girls weekend! Coming off an amazing trip to Crested Butte, Colorado has me thinking about what made my days away so fun. Here's a guide to making your special girls getaway extra great!

1. Pick a Beautiful Place!

This may seem like a no brainer, but it's important to pick some place where you know you will have fun. The weather plays a big role in this decision, and Colorado is absolutely gorgeous in March. Sunny skies and mild temperatures made for the perfect combo for our girls weekend. It's also important to know something about the location before you travel there. Luckily, our friend had a house in Crested Butte and was familiar with the area, but if you want to try some place new, it's great to enlist the help of a travel advisor to make sure you don't miss anything while you're there!

2. Make Sure the Food is Great!

There was no shortage of great food in Crested Butte (but there was a shortage of paying attention to any diets!!!). From quaint lunch spots in the main part of town (my favorite was the soup in bread bowls at The Last Steep) to fancy dinners, we ate very well. Our dining experiences each night were unique: on Friday we ate at The Sunflower which was a cute restaurant in town with impeccable service and great food. On Saturday, we treated ourselves to a sleigh ride to a restaurant on the mountain called Uley's Cabin to enjoy a five course meal. Both dining experiences were unique and memorable which will give us girls something to talk about for years to come!

3. Go Shopping!

... and we did plenty of that! Crested Butte's main town is lined with colorful buildings filled with a variety of shops. From clothing boutiques to home décor to jewelry stores and everything in between, we had a wonderful time exploring this charming little town.

4. Do Something Adventurous!

Some of us skied while we were in Crested Butte (one of my friends skied for the very first time in her life - and was a NATURAL!) and some of us decided to relax and get a massage. The group who decided to take it easy still wanted some adventure to their day, so this group decided to walk over two and a half miles from our house nearby the ski slopes into town. At first, this group thought to walk along a designated pathway but soon found out that this path was covered with deep snow. Eventually the group made its way to town and got a good workout doing so! & what makes adventure even more fun is knowing you'll have some time to relax afterwards - whether it's spending time in a hot tub with a glass of wine or recapping your day while lounging on the couch or warming up by the fire, adventure always leads to funny stories to be shared at the end of the day.

5. Have Fun Friends!

Ok, this one is easier said than done, but I am one lucky girl to have such great and fun friends. Any successful girls weekend should be filled with laughter, memories, adventure, and if you're like us, lots of wine! You know that your girls weekend was great when you start planning the next one before the first one is over.

My girls weekend to Crested Butte was amazing! If you are interested in a girls trip to take with your BFFs but don't know the best place to go, let's chat. I'd love to assist in making sure your time spent with your favorite gal pals perfect!
